Winelands Marathon and Half: Saturday, 20 November 2010, 05:30 / 05:45

Firstly, good luck to everyone running the Winelands Marathon or Half this coming weekend!!
Marathon Profile
Apparently they've had record entries this year, and are expecting some hectic traffic on race morning, so get there early to avoid the stress of queueing for parking while the clock ticks ever closer to the starting gun... Previous years have seen some pretty bad traffic from 5:00 onwards, so get there early!

But most important: HAVE FUN!!!

Route Description:
MARATHON:
Marathon Route
Start in Doornbosch Street, Stellenbosch and head out on the M12/R310 towards Kuilsriver. First 6 km is flat until the start of the first big hill. This climb continues until just past the 10km mark. After cresting the top of the hill turn left into Vlaeberg Road. This is now downhill to the 15km mark. Turn left into the R310 and turn right into Annandale Road 2 km further. This undulating section takes you to the R44 and the 22 km mark. Turn right into the R44 and follow this undulating section to Somerset West. Return to Stellenbosch coming back along the R44. From about the 40 km it is slightly downhill, levelling out just before the finish.

HALF MARATHON:
Half Marathon Route
Start in Doornbosch Street, do a 5 km loop through Krigeville, then head out on the R44 towards Somerset West. At the 11 km mark turn left into Blaauwklippen Rd. The next 5 km is gravel and slightly uphill. Getting back on the tar at about 16 km there is a short, steep downhill and winding section before the course levels out to a less steep section. This section takes runners back to the R44, which they join at about 19 km. From about the 19 km it is slightly downhill, levelling out just before the finish.

Good luck and enjoy!
